Where:
https://umd.zoom.us/j/97570730017?pwd=NzJCcUxpK0NOZ2lUemxHekJaRnJ4Zz09 Password: de_gennes
Speaker: Lucas Bouck (UMD) -
Abstract: We will derive the Oseen Frank Energy of a uniaxial liquid crystal by first assuming that the energy is quadratic in the gradient and satisfies other desirable properties like frame indifference and material symmetry. Then, derivation we apply a few rotations and use the assumptions to end up with the Oseen Frank Energy.
