Qualifying  Exams

Qualifying exams are given each August and January. Exams are given in Algebra, Analysis, Applied Statistics, Geometry/Topology, Mathematical Statistics, & Probability.

If you intend to take a qualifying exam in January 2019, the sign up (Google Forms) will be available in mid-October 2018. 

January 2019 Exam Dates: 

January 14:
Algebra & Mathematical Statistics

January 16:
Analysis & Applied Statistics

January 18:
Geometry/Topology & Probability

*Students admitted after January 2018 are not eligible to take the Geometry/Topology Qualifying Exam.

Language Exams

The next language exam will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 9 am - 12 pm in Kirwan 3206 (Colloquium Room). The deadline for signing up is Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 12 pm. [Please Note: Russian will not be offered for this semester.]

Language Exams (in French, German and Russian) are administered each semester, usually on a Saturday in late October or early November and a Saturday in April. Students for whom Saturday exams present a religious problem should contact the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies, and an alternative arrangement will be made.

If you are planning a graduation this year and have not yet passed a language exam, please make sure to take the exam this cycle.
