Maryland's Statistics Program offers a balanced education in statistical methods, applications and the underlying mathematics.  Students master core material and choose among electives within and outside the Mathematics Department to develop a program customized to their needs and interests.  Master's graduates move easily into careers in academia, industry and government.   Doctoral students choose among academic careers and research positions in federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, the Census Bureau, or the Food and Drug Administration.  Other Ph.D. graduates work in private industry in fields such as pharmaceuticals, marketing research or management consulting.

Our new Biostatistics/Bioinformatics (STAT_BB) concentration will prepare graduates for careers medical research as well as the rapidly growing fields of genomics and bioinformatics.
