Distinguished Professor Emeritus Ivo Babuška, who moved to the University of Texas in 1996 after his retirement at Maryland, has been awarded one of the most prestigious of all mathematics prizes: the 2012 Steele Prize for Lifetime Achievement, awarded by the American Mathematical Society.
You can access the prize citation here. It mentions important work that he did here at Maryland, some in collaboration with John Osborn, and his numerous graduate students, again, mostly at Maryland. Congratulations to Ivo on this exceptional and well-deserved honor!
