The Monroe Martin Award is given to winners of a competition: students give 15-minute talks in which they communicate a mathematical idea or method to the general mathematical community. The talks will be judged on their content and presentation by a panel of past winners.
Monroe H. Martin, a professor emeritus at the University of Maryland, College Park. Martin chaired the Department of Mathematics from 1942 until 1954 and was the founding director of the Institute for Fluid Dynamics and Applied Mathematics (a forerunner of the Institute for Physical Science and Technology) from 1952 until 1968.
