The award is in memory of Robert Michael Higginbotham, an excellent student who in 1967 received a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics here at College Park. Two years later, he was killed in the Vietnam War. His name can be found online at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall Page. The award was established by a donation of his family.


About Robert Michael Higginbotham

Robert M Higginbotham was serving his country during the Vietnam War when he gave his all in the line of duty. He had enlisted in the United States Army. Entered the service via Regular Military. He began his tour on 12 October 1968. Higginbotham had the rank of Specialist Four. His military occupation or specialty was Armor Crewman. Service number assignment was 11575380. Attached to Americal Division, 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry, A Troop.

He was born on 25 November 1945. According to our records Maryland was his home or enlistment state and Montgomery county has been included within the archival record. We have Rockville listed as his city. During his service in the Vietnam War, Army Specialist Four Higginbotham experienced a traumatic event which ultimately resulted in loss of life on 14 May 1969.
