Student Travel Requests
The Math Department offers two funds to support graduate students traveling to conferences:
- Yorke Graduate Support Fund: Covers expenses up to $800 (can only be used once per year).
- Joel Cohen Travel Fund: Can also be used once per year (funding details may vary).
Note: The two funds cannot be combined, and both are available to students who are:
- Presenting a talk or poster at the conference.
- Receiving additional funding from other sources (e.g., advisor, conference organizers).
The department can also cover the cost of poster printing as a separate expense.
How to Receive Funds for Travel:
- Presentation Requirement: Students must be presenting at the conference to receive a travel award. This award is provided as a reimbursement.
- Approval from the Associate Chair: Students planning to travel should get written approval from the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies. Please email Leonid Koralov with the details of the trip and request for travel funds.
- Apply for the University Goldhaber Fund: The Associate Chair will recommend that students apply for the University Goldhaber Fund, which provides matching funds. For example, if the department provides 500 dollars, the Goldhaber Fund, will match an additional 500 dollars.
- Submit Request in Concur: Once you have approval, create your request in Concur before traveling. The Graduate Office or Business Office can assist with navigating Concur. If the request is not submitted in Concur prior to travel, reimbursement will not be possible.
For any questions regarding travel awards, please contact the Graduate Office.
